Detachable-Head Polespear
The GAT-KU hybrid construction consists of a 6061 solid aircraft aluminum rear combined with a flexible carbon-graphite front end. One common problem with other polespears arise when a heavier fish is working the end of the shaft. A front end will usually bend or break when carrying a big enough fish. The carbon-graphite adds just enough flexibility to eliminate this problem. All the beating is absorbed by the flexibility of the front end of the polespear, making it virtually indestructible. The ‘punch’ of the solid aluminum and the flexibility of the front end makes this polespear a weapon of choice.
All polespears break down into half length. An 6-footer will consist of a 3-foot rear segment, 2-foot front segment, and about A foot long head. Overall lengths include the attached head. All heads are approximately 15″ in length.
Care Instructions
Replace your band when you see the inevitable signs of wear.
If your band seems too long, I recommend tying a knot near the ‘hand’ end close enough so that all 4 of your knuckles fit snug within the loop it creates. This shortens the band and makes for a ‘safety net’ in case you were to let go of you polespear. Even the bands that comes with your polespear will loose some memory throughout use and may need to be shortened with a knot after a season or two of use.
For nine and ten footers, twist the band a half wrap while loading. This will eliminate any bowing that takes place in the shaft when under loaded force and help to produce a straighter shot.
Make sure the threaded connections are tight before and throughout use. Loose connections may result in damage to the aluminum, set screw, or both as you are loading the polespear. Teflon tape can be applied to the middle stainless threaded connection. This will add extra resistance to the threads and help prevent the link from coming loose while in the water.
A habit of dissembling your polespear and rinsing with freshwater after each use will help prevent any corrosion or seizing.
